Wed, Jan 25 Week One

Proposed agenda–
  1. Intro to the Design-Thinking (DT) Process (listening, note-making, questioning)
  2. Experience stages 1 & 2 DT–Identifying a task and brainstorming
  3. TED's 5 ways of listening (listening, note-making, thinking, questioning)
  4. Experiencing listening in different ways
  5. Reflecting together metacognitively

Blog #2 changes (if you've already completed your posting, disregard this change)

  • Read two peer blogs (blog entry #1) and incorporate their thinking into your own posting
  • Read Knipper & Duggan's "Writing to learn across the curriculum" article and respond using the blog rubric guidelines in the syllabus 
  • Add "Links" as a "Gadget" to your blog and add our course blog as a link
  • *optional–expound more on your listening experience. Tell us about it.

Mon Jan 23 Week One

Welcome to 411 Seniors!

Today's proposed agenda–
  1. Read Aloud–Mem Fox's Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge (listening, viewing, feeling, thinking)
  2. The Story of our Names (thinking, writing, feeling)
  3. Quaker style sharing (speaking, listening, feeling)
  4. Practicing metacognition (thinking, speaking, writing/note-taking)
If time permits–
  • An introduction to Design-Thinking (listening, note-taking, questioning)
  • Experiencing Stages 1 & 2 of the DT process (identifying a task & brainstorming)
  • TED's video–5 Ways to Listen (listening, viewing, writing/note-taking, questioning)
Due dates–
Blog entry #2 due Friday (Jan 27) by midnight
All blogs must be online and going by Jan 27 (find me if you need any help)

Blog #2 requirements–
  1. Watch (or review) the TED video about listening
  2. Try one (or more) of the listening exercises and blog about your experience
  3. Choose 2 other peer blogs (Blog entry #1) and incorporate their ideas  
  4. Add a "Links" Gadget to your blog and add our CIR 411 course blog to your list
