• Create a cinquain poem together– http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinquain 
• Grab a kid-friendly science/nature informational magazine and choose an animal
• Write your own cinquain to share with the class

1. What was this entire process like for you as a learner? What did you learn about yourself?
2. What teaching opportunity can you identify in this activity as a specific skill to hone in on?

Lover of baseball, women, music and smooth-talkin’

Bored with the same ol’ one-two, one-two umpdy-dump piano sounds

Feared failure, rejection and guilt (his parents had different plans for him)

Inspired, he formed a band, learned how to play the piano, made it to the Cotton Club

Duke wanted to see music change–no more umdy-dump one-twos–to celebrate the pride and diversity of black heritage
